Fruits are paired with something every day. I like affordable fruits, like apples and oranges; the fresher, the better, and the lower the price, the better. Only seasonal fruits can meet these requirements, while many off-season fruits are easily identified by their prices. For example, eating watermelon now. Even if the price isn't an issue, it doesn't taste that good. Maybe it's the high price, or the off-season makes it feel like it's overpriced? It raises my expectations too high.
Cantaloupe#
I mentioned before that I sometimes buy from roadside stalls or wholesale markets, and I think the prices and quality are pretty good. For example, I previously bought more than ten cantaloupes wholesale, at 1.5 or 1.2 per pound. I eat slowly, one a day, and a small one weighs over four pounds. The refrigerator's cold storage is too small, so it can't keep fresh. As I eat them, I find that some cantaloupes start to have surface dents and turn grayish-black, developing small pits. At this point, I generally just throw them away; spending money on medicine for a stomachache or liver damage, along with the psychological trauma, isn't worth it. It's better to just throw them away.
Sugarcane#
Red heart sugarcane looks quite nice. When I was young, I always thought it was a marking, just like the blue-purple stamp on pork. In fact, it's a type of fungus; during the reproduction of the fungus, a highly toxic toxin—3-nitropropionic acid neurotoxin—is produced. Symptoms of poisoning initially include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain, followed by dizziness, headaches, and convulsions. In severe cases, it can lead to cerebral ischemic necrosis, respiratory failure, or even death. Some poisoned patients may experience speech and movement disorders. I ate it when I was young. Fortunately, it was probably a small amount, so there were no issues. If I see it again, I’ll just throw it away.
Persimmon#
A few days ago, I bought chocolate persimmons and ate one each day. On the first day, there was no problem, but on the second day, I felt discomfort in my stomach, sour and uncomfortable. After drinking water, I felt fine. Later, I found out that eating too much hawthorn can also cause this issue; someone ate a one-meter-long candied hawthorn and ended up with a stomach stone.
Note
The high content of pectin and tannic acid in hawthorn can precipitate into an insoluble substance when it comes into contact with stomach acid, sticking together with hawthorn skin, fibers, and food residues, making it difficult to digest and prone to forming stomach stones.
After stomach stones form, most patients will experience discomfort in the upper abdomen, bloating, nausea, or pain. Some patients may have symptoms similar to chronic gastritis, such as loss of appetite, indigestion, dull pain, acid reflux, and heartburn.
Therefore, hawthorn should not be consumed in excess; it can easily lead to stomach stones. The large amounts of organic acids, fruit acids, and hawthorn acid can cause a sharp increase in stomach acid, irritating the gastric mucosa. Eating 2-3 pieces occasionally is more appropriate, and it should not be consumed on an empty stomach or after drinking alcohol. Patients with gastritis, gastric ulcers, or esophagitis should also avoid it, especially avoiding eating raw hawthorn on an empty stomach.
This seems unrelated to spoiled fruits, but that feeling makes me reevaluate fruits like persimmons and hawthorn.
Pomelo and Grapes#
I've eaten purple heart pomelo a few times; it's not expensive and isn't sour or astringent, which is a good pomelo in my opinion. My standards aren't high, and this year's first one is indeed sweet—it's the best experience I've had in recent years. Thanks to cultivation techniques, like the Qingwang grapes, which seem to be better than the Dazeshan or local grapes available in the market. The Qingwang variety has many branches; some are seedless and don't require peeling, some have edible skins with seeds, and some are seedless but need peeling. The flavors vary; some are similar, some are sweeter, and some have a more astringent tannin taste. I can't tell the difference between Li Kui and Li Gui, as I can't identify them from a genetic perspective. Qingwang grapes feel less like grapes. By the way, the flesh of Qingwang grapes has a texture that mixes tomato and grape. The advantage is that they are easy to transport, not too bouncy, and not easily broken. Each grape is tightly packed together, taking up minimal space, as if they were designed for efficient transport.
Back to the pomelo, I bought one and left it for almost a week. It looked okay on the surface. It was a bit soft; the skin is thick. After removing the white pith and skin, the seeds inside and the shape and color of the flesh didn't seem right. Maybe I was biased; there was a strong alcoholic smell. I wondered if alcohol could kill bacteria and if it had fermented. I was wrong; I even tried a bite and immediately spat it out. It was sour with an alcoholic taste. Then I rinsed my mouth and threw it away. I silently thought about the cost of medicine and irreversible physiological damage. I can set aside the psychological aspect for now.
Fruit Ninja Game#
I first played it on a graphics tablet, which I only used a few times for Fruit Ninja before it was left idle. My child likes to draw; I wonder if it can still be used. Speaking of the graphics tablet, I originally planned to write my own font, but later found it hard to write, so I printed it out and wrote it by hand with a pen, then took a photo to upload. My handwriting is quite average. I'm just messing around for fun.
